My name is Marilyn and I am a Yoga and Meditation teacher.

I am also a Veterinarian. I love animals, yellow flowers and getting out in nature.

I grew up in Cairns in sunny North Queensland then moved to Brisbane to follow my love of animals and study Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland in St. Lucia. I attained a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours in 2005 and am still currently working as a Veterinarian.

Veterinary work can be very rewarding, but it can also be very stressful. After several years of working as a veterinarian, I suffered from severe stress, anxiety and depression. I felt overwhelmed with life and became suicidal. Sadly, veterinarians are up to four-times more likely than the general population to suicide. Thankfully I sought professional help and made changes in my life, including practising yoga and meditation, to help manage stress. I am passionate about mental health and wellbeing, because I have suffered from mental illness myself.

My yoga journey began as a physical practice of making shapes with my body, that evolved into a wholistic practice positively affecting my mind, body, mood, thoughts, health, connections and other aspects of life. I felt a positive shift in myself and gained many insights through practising yoga and meditation that I felt called to share this gift with others, to help others help themselves. To alleviate suffering and find peace. This is why I decided to become a Yoga and Meditation teacher.

When I initially became a yoga student, I was intimidated by the idea of what I thought yoga looked like – the flexibility, advanced postures and Instagram bodies. I couldn’t even touch my toes! Sounding familiar? I soon learned that I didn’t have to be incredibly flexible or make intricate shapes with my body. I could still get the same benefits by making modifications that suited me, because nothing has to be perfect.

My goal is to make yoga accessible to everybody, as I strongly believe that yoga truly is for everyBODY, regardless of body shape, age or fitness level. Yoga is a tool that can be taken off the mat and into the world to benefit all people in every day life. Yoga can help calm the body and mind, improve mood and concentration, increase flexibility, strength, balance, mobility and so much more.

Come with an open mind, let go of any expectations and experience the benefits of yoga in your own life today.

See you on the mat.

I have attended many yoga classes with Marilyn both online and in studio. Her classes are always filled with such variety which I love. From the relaxed, calming asanas to the more advanced and challenging poses. Marilyn has a wealth of knowledge and is very encouraging during practise. She always has a calm and positive approach during class, I always leave feeling totally energised and with my mind at peace. If you want a yoga instructor who really helps you to reconnect your mind and body to feel grounded, I highly recommend Marilyn.

During the initial stages of the global pandemic I wanted to incorporate yoga into my self care routine. I found Marilyn’s online yoga classes to be just what I needed at the time. It was a warm inviting place where I could move and nurture my mind and body to support me throughout my day and into my life. I highly recommend you give her classes a go.
